Phase one - clearout and demolition
A new gallery on the foreshore
Directly across the road from the Petone Beach, the gallery will be in the square looking building shown in to the right of the photo. Right outside the gallery is a crossing that leads to the Petone foreshore promenade and the boardwalk platform between the dune grass on the beach.
This building (no not the new one on the right, - I wish, but the squarish, cream building on the left) will be my new studio/gallery and icecream parlour. The original building of the block, tower on the left, was built in 1937 and was known then as 'Mrs Deans Tearooms'. The one on the right was built in 1939 as two bedsit apartments and the block in the middle was built-in sometime in between. My intention is to re create the art deco aspect of the left and right buildings, demolish the center and build a new/modern, mainly glass, center section.
The new studio
This the view from the second floor where I hope to have my new studio and provide painting lessons. The place is in quite a state but who doesn't enjoy a good challenge. That's Matiu/Somes island to the right and Wellington heads to the left.
Views to die for
This was the view from my new gallery on one of those magical, dead calm evenings you get in Wellington after a light southerly has just passed through and clean the air.
The main gallery
Thie old dairy - This is where the main gallery will be, a perfect space for art.
And an icecream parlour
This is the space set aside for the icecream parlour. It was once a bed sit apartment.
