New Gallery

Petone will soon have an exciting new art gallery featuring local art by local artists. Plans are well underway to transform an old dairy at the eastern end of Petone Foreshore and directly across the road form the beach, into a friendly local gallery and ice cream parlour with take out coffee.

Alfred’s paintings and prints will hang together with artworks by his artist friends and provide a welcome variety. Framing services and a painting hire service will also be provided. Alfred will also conduct watercolour classes for those keen to give this exciting medium a try for themselves.

The two side buildings, built in 1937 and 1939 respectively, will be earthquake strengthened and their outward appearance reinstated to the art deco style of that period. They will be joined with a more modern center section.

Once the gallery and studio above are completed, Alfred’s plan is to feature Petone in the first, grand opening exhibition which will be titled ‘Petone by the Sea’ A number of other exciting exhibitions are also being planned featuring different areas around Wellington. These exhibitions will be interspersed with nautical and marine life themed exhibitions, the first one featuring whales and then Antarctica....
